About Latex Allergy
Latex allergic reaction may be serious but a very rare fatal allergy. An allergen to latex should avoid or limit using latex products.
People who are at higher risk to latex allergy
- Health care workers and others who wear latex gloves
- Children with spina bifida
- People exposed to rubber latex
- People with other allergies such as hay fever
Triggers
- Any medical procedure done wearing natural rubber latex gloves
- Playing with rubber balloon
Symptoms
- Runny nose
- Itching
- Hives
- Wheezing
- Breathing difficulties
- Skin irritation
- Anaphylaxis
Management
Latex allergy is diagnosed by an allergic blood test.
The possible treatments for latex allergy are
- Avoid direct contact with latex products
- Avoid food that contains latex
- Prior information of your latex allergy before any medication or dental care
